History made at Hawthorn
Sunday 30th September 2018 saw history being made at St Michael & All Angels Church in Hawthorn Village when, in a packed parish church, Paul Paterson was ordained and licensed as Curate of Hawthorn and Murton. The event was unique on two counts; it was the first time in the 156 year history of the church that a service of ordination had taken place and, furthermore, it was the first time that the Lord Bishop of Durham, Rt Rev'd Paul Butler, had conducted a service of ordination away from Durham Cathedral. A momentous day for the people of Hawthorn, and the start of joyous and challenging times ahead.
